The Shuttle XPC systems are sold barebones only, containing just the case, motherboard, power supply, and CPU cooler. We fleshed them out with the following components.

EPoX’s system uses an Intel 865G motherboard with ICH5 south bridge, and so provides some pretty good features. The integrated graphics are of course utterly forgettable, but you get two SATA ports, four USB on the back and two in the front, a FireWire port in back and in front, 10/100 Ethernet, and 5.1 AC’97 audio. The rear panel conveniently includes both RCA and optical SPDIF outputs.
Note that this system is configured exactly as we have configured our systems in small form factor reviews in recent months, with a high-end graphics card and sound card to put a little extra load on the system and isolate system-level performance rather than be limited by integrated graphics speed. You can easily compare this system against the Shuttle XPC ST6IG4 or AOpen’s XC Cube systems. However, we note, however, that some of our benchmarks have changed. We’re using more recent video drivers, a newer version of both QuickTime and DivX, and have moved on to the 2004 versions of Winstone and PCMark tests. While the systems and their setups are comparable, the exact benchmark scores may not be, and therefore are not included on the same graphs in this article.
